Crew Management System (CMS)

Crew Management System (CMS) is a centralized, web-based information technology solution developed by the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) under the Ministry of Railways, Government of India. It is one of the most important digital applications used by Indian Railways for managing its Running Staff, including Loco Pilots (LPs), Assistant Loco Pilots (ALPs), Train Managers (formerly Guards), Shunters, and other crew involved in train operations.

The primary objective of CMS is to ensure that qualified, medically fit, well-rested, and competent crew members are available for train operations at the right place and at the right time. The system has transformed traditional manual crew booking into a fully computerized, transparent, and real-time process, thereby improving operational efficiency, safety, and resource utilization across the Indian Railways network. CRIS has developed CMS as one of the core operational IT solutions supporting digital train operations.

क्रू मैनेजमेंट सिस्टम (Crew Management System – CMS) भारतीय रेलवे की एक आधुनिक, वेब-आधारित एवं केंद्रीकृत सूचना प्रौद्योगिकी (Information Technology) प्रणाली है, जिसे रेलवे सूचना प्रणाली केंद्र (Centre for Railway Information Systems – CRIS) द्वारा विकसित एवं संचालित किया गया है। इसका मुख्य उद्देश्य भारतीय रेलवे के रनिंग स्टाफ (Running Staff) जैसे लोको पायलट (Loco Pilot), सहायक लोको पायलट (Assistant Loco Pilot), ट्रेन मैनेजर (पूर्व में गार्ड), शंटर (Shunter) तथा अन्य रनिंग कर्मचारियों का सुरक्षित, वैज्ञानिक, पारदर्शी एवं दक्ष प्रबंधन करना है।

भारतीय रेलवे विश्व के सबसे बड़े रेल नेटवर्कों में से एक है, जहाँ प्रतिदिन हजारों यात्री एवं मालगाड़ियों का संचालन किया जाता है। प्रत्येक ट्रेन के सुरक्षित संचालन के लिए प्रशिक्षित, सक्षम एवं पर्याप्त विश्राम प्राप्त (Rested) रनिंग स्टाफ की समय पर उपलब्धता अत्यंत आवश्यक होती है। पूर्व में क्रू बुकिंग एवं प्रबंधन का कार्य मैनुअल रजिस्टरों एवं कागजी अभिलेखों के माध्यम से किया जाता था, जिससे समय की अधिक आवश्यकता होती थी तथा त्रुटियों एवं पारदर्शिता संबंधी समस्याएँ उत्पन्न होती थीं। इन चुनौतियों के समाधान हेतु भारतीय रेलवे ने Crew Management System (CMS) विकसित किया, जिसने क्रू बुकिंग की पूरी प्रक्रिया को डिजिटल, स्वचालित एवं रियल-टाइम बना दिया।

Lobby system (Freight Train Operation)

Lobby system:

A Lobby is like a control office in the field. It is established with the twin aim of reducing engine detention and crew detention in a yard or a crew or engine changing station by realistic ordering of trains and Crew/Guard booking.

It is advantageous to have a combined crew and guard booking lobby so that both are available simultaneously. The lobby supervisors/staff can take forecast of a train running from the Deputy controller/section controller along with details regarding the names of crew, Guard and their signing in time, loco particulars, last C&W examination etc.
